Victoria Selbach's most
recent portrait series,
Friends of 2008, shock
with the portrayal of visual
strength and subtle inner
beauty.
The strong lighting and
graphic approach to
composition elevate these
faces from traditional
portraiture to the status of
modern fine art.

THINKING AHEAD
TIPS
LA COLOMBE D'OR
Eighty years before art
hotels became a global
fashion, Paul Roux started a
modest cafe in a 16-century
house in the hills above the
French Riviera. As the
business grew into a
successful auberge.
Henri Matisse became a regular; Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, Jean
Renoir and an array of painters, writers and film artists turning the
space into a salon and contributing original works in appreciation,
or sometimes in exchange for a room. The hotel boasts a
breathtaking array of 20th century art. This family-run hotel is nearly
always full, word-of-mouth has kept them busy for three
generations. The hotel is perched at the entrance to the village of St.
Paul de Vence, a 14th-century hillside fortress. Passageways inside
the walls are brimming with galleries, artists' studios, and several
fine restaurants. Absolutely a unique experience.

In this world the word recycling is of great
importance. Step into your basements and
addicts and look for furniture and
accessories that you can assign a different
function to and use it in your home. Think
outside the box, turn it upside down, paint
it, change shades or just dust it.
Bring nature into your house by
picking up broken of branches. Tie
them together in a bunch and put
them in a corner, lay them on the floor
at your bed end, put them in a vase or
create a unique headboard. We do
like to stress not to pick living
branches. Nature is most beautiful in
its natural habitat.
